Virtual Visit Toolkit: Part 1

During this time of social distancing, Bee Well is taking our virtual visits to the next level so you can stay home and still get great pediatric care from our doctors.  Over the next 2 weeks we will be bringing you a series of videos and blog posts with items that we think are essential to your virtual visit tool kit. Today, we introduce you to the Teslong digital wireless otoscope/endoscope.

Ear infections are a common concern for our younger patients. Diagnosing one requires visualization of the tympanic membrane, commonly known as the eardrum.  To avoid a trip to the doctors office during the time of Covid-19, we recommend the Teslong wireless digital otscope. The company also makes a non-wireless version. We highly suggest the wireless otscope as it is less cumbersome to use, especially with wiggly kiddos.

The Teslong otoscope/endoscope is sold by several sellers on Amazon. We purchased ours at  Expect to pay $45-50. Shipping took 7-10 days. The otoscope comes with instructions on how to download the app and to use your smartphone to capture images. In the video below, our wonderful medical assistants Marie and Samantha demonstrate how to use the digital otoscope.

Here are a few additional tips on how to best use the digital otoscope for virtual visits:

  1. We recommend using a laptop or desktop for your virtual visit as you cannot use other apps on your phone without prematurely ending the virtual visit in the MyPrivia app.
  2. If you do not have access to a computer and need to use your phone, we recommend using the otoscope to take pictures of the ear canal and eardrum before your scheduled virtual visit. Upload the photos into a message to your doctor using our patient portal so they can be reviewed prior to the appointment.
